Product Description
In the newest devastatingly intense thriller by #1 New York Times bestselling phenomenon Vince Flynn, his deadly and charismatic hero Mitch Rapp wages a war against a new enemy with the help of a fellow soldier as dedicated and as lethal as they come. Vince Flynn's thrillers, featuring counterterrorism operative Mitch Rapp, have dominated the imagination of readers everywhere. In them, Flynn has captured the secretive world of the fearless men and women, who, bound by duty, risk their lives in a covert war they must hide from even their own political leaders. Now, Rapp and his protege, Mike Nash, may have met their match. The CIA has detected and intercepted two terrorist cells, but a third is feared to be on the loose. Led by a dangerous mastermind obsessed with becoming the leader of al-Qaeda, this determined and terrifying group is about to descend on America. Rapp needs the best on this assignment, and Nash, who has served his government honorably for sixteen years first as an officer in the Marine Corps and then as an operative in an elite counterterrorism team run by Rapp is his choice. Together, they have made careers out of meeting violence with extreme violence and have never wavered in the fight against the jihadists and their culture of death. Both have fought the war on terrorism in secret without accolades or acknowledgment of their personal sacrifices. Both have been forced to lie to virtually every single person they care about, and both have soldiered on with the knowledge that their hard work and lethal tactics have saved thousands of lives. But the political winds have changed in America, and certain leaders on Capitol Hill are pushing to have men like Rapp and Nash put back on a short leash. And then one spring afternoon in Washington, DC, everything changes. Using his insider knowledge of intelligence agencies and the military, Flynn once again delivers an all-too-real portrayal of a war that is that is waged every day by a handful of brave, devoted souls. Smart, fast-paced, and jaw-droppingly realistic, Extreme Measures is the political thriller of our time.

Rapp as the BAD GUY? August 17, 2010 Constance Ericson Mitch Rapp really, really disappointed me this time around. I've always thought of him as a true patriot, frustrated by the limitations that our laws put on his actions, but always mindful that we are a nation of laws. He knows the evil that this country is up against, and he respects what makes this country great while constraining the fight against that evil. He frequently has had to ignore the desires of congress people, his own boss and even the President of the United States in order to keep this country safe. Nevertheless, Rapp has never before betrayed his own organization and, in doing so, betrayed his country.
Mr. Flynn offered no justification, no sensible motive, nothing, to rationalize Rapp's single-handed takeover of a military base to conduct his own interrogation totally outside of any code of conduct, be it military, CIA, or other rules of engagement. He offered no believable vindication of Rapp's use of torture in the circumstances. What was even more unbelievable was Rapp's treatment of a military officer who was doing his duty.
Then, after offering up Rapp to what? Literary expediency? Mr. Flynn spends approximately 85% of the book detailing the political wrangling that ensues, the problems that Mike Nash has with diapers and the implausible plot of a terrorist cell while Rapp remains off the scene. Finally, in about 25 pages (of a 500 page book), Rapp is turned loose to foil the terrorist plot. (NO, that is not a plot-spoiler - there isn't any plot, except for the putative terrorist plot, which is really shaky to begin with. )
It gets 2 stars because I managed to finish it without starting over.
A Major MAJOR Disappointment May 13, 2010 Mr. William M. Henn (California) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I don't know how I'd feel if I'd never read Flynn before, but having read a lot of his books, I was angry reading this one, and only continued reading it (by skipping page after page of blah-blah-blah and just reading the dialogue) because I wanted to see how the Bad Guys got their comeuppances. WAY too much sermonizing, WAY too much political bickering, WAY too much of an unnecessary sub-plot with the Mike Nash family, WAY too much talk and "exposition" and WAY too little action. WAY WAY too much filler in general. I wondered while reading it if Flynn had written this in high school or college and left it unpublished until now -- or if he's now getting paid by the word. It might be the death knell for any more Flynn books for me. Either "Shame on you, Mr. Flynn" or "You desperately need to take a vacation."
Great read! April 14, 2010 Suze (Minneapolis, MN USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Once again Vince Flynn keeps me reading day and night and sorry when it ends. Excellent!
An amazing read! April 10, 2010 Mac Frampton (Atlanta, GA) Having read the first three installments of the Mitch Rapp series, I "jumped" to one of the latest. I am sorry I did this. I would rather have read all the books in their proper sequence. HOWEVER, this takes nothing away from the power of this book. I believe that Vince Flynn speaks from a great deal of experience; he appears to know things that most of us can only imagine. His grasp on the inner workings of the CIA, not to mention his total understanding of the role of Politics in much of our Government's decision making, makes this book not just believable but chilling as well! The story line is credible. As always, his characterizations are beautifully descriptive. There is a tension that Mr. Flynn builds throughout the book to almost force the reader to keep going. I found myself simply unable to put the book down as it neared its conclusion.
I believe that Mr. Flynn's books should be required reading for high school students. Only by reading these carefully crafted and extremely entertaining novels have I been able to fully come to an understanding of the unbelievably brutal capacity of our enemy today. We can hear all about it on the news. But nothing can bring a person to feel the horror of terror like reading one of these books.
It is impossible for me to give a high enough rating to Extreme Measures. If you want to really understand the threats we face as a nation, you MUST read Extreme Measures, and all of the other Mitch Rapp books. They are incomparable!
Narrator made it unlistenable April 1, 2010 A. Kapple 1 out of 2 found this review helpful

Okay, so there are advantages to going out to the local mall and doing some window shopping or browsing in your favorite bookstore, but when time is short, go the online route. Play at an online casino and save yourself the hassle of time-consuming travel.
